Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu—or Legend of the Galactic Heroes if you're not playing the Japanese version—is one of those deep, text-heavy SNES strategy RPGs that never made it overseas. It's based on the classic sci-fi novels, so expect a lot of political intrigue and massive space battles.

You start off choosing between two factions (I went with the Free Planets Alliance first, no regrets), and then it's all about managing fleets, making alliances, and trying not to get outmaneuvered by the enemy admirals. The combat's turn-based but with this weird hybrid of tactical movement and card-based commands—took me a bit to get the hang of it, but once it clicks, it feels surprisingly tense.

Fair warning: if you don't read Japanese, you'll need a translation guide. But if you're into old-school strategy with a slow burn, it's a hidden gem. The soundtrack's got that classic SNES synth-orchestra vibe too.
