Ghost Chaser Densei is one of those SNES beat 'em ups that flew under the radar outside Japan, but it’s got this weird charm to it. You pick from three ghost hunters—each with their own moves—and just start wrecking spirits that somehow got mixed up with the yakuza. Yeah, it’s as bizarre as it sounds.
The first level throws you right into it: smashing through neon-lit streets, dodging fireballs from floating heads, and occasionally grabbing power-ups that make your attacks go nuts. The sprites are chunky in that classic SNES way, and some of the enemy designs are legit creepy. Not gonna lie, the guy with the chainsaw arms gave me a jump scare the first time.
It’s not the deepest fighter out there, but there’s something satisfying about the way your character’s special moves send ghosts flying. I kept coming back just to see how fast I could clear the subway level. If you’re into weird 90s action games, this one’s a trip.
