Gemfire on SNES is one of those underrated strategy gems that feels like a mix between Risk and a fantasy novel. You start by picking a kingdom—each with its own quirks—and then it’s all about expanding your territory, managing armies, and occasionally dropping a meteor spell on your enemies (which never gets old).
The battles are simple but satisfying, and there’s something weirdly addictive about watching your little castles spread across the map. Some factions are way harder than others—I remember picking the wrong one my first time and getting steamrolled by turn three. But once you get the hang of it, the pacing is just right for a lazy afternoon of conquest.
It’s not the flashiest SNES game, but if you like old-school strategy with a fantasy twist, this one’s got charm. Just don’t expect the AI to go easy on you.
