Garou Densetsu, known as Fatal Fury outside Japan, was released by SNK for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991. This was a time when home consoles were starting to get competent ports of arcade fighters, and this game was SNK's effort to bring their Neo Geo hit to a wider audience. It arrived on the SNES with a specific revision, the Rev A version, which tweaked some of the game's mechanics from the initial Japanese cart.

You control one of several fighters, like Terry Bogard, in one-on-one battles across various stages. The main objective is to defeat all opponents to become the champion of the King of Fighters tournament. Two mechanics stand out: the ability to switch between two background planes during a fight to dodge attacks, and the use of special Desperation Moves executed with complex button inputs when your health is low. The pacing is fast, and the computer opponents can be quite challenging, demanding precise timing to overcome. Landing a powerful special move after a long combo provides a genuine sense of accomplishment.
