Ganbare Goemon 2 is one of those weird, charming SNES sequels that doubles down on everything that made the first game great—more absurd humor, bigger levels, and even weirder mini-games. You’re still playing as Goemon, that blue-haired, pipe-smacking ninja, but this time there’s a whole crew of playable characters, including Ebisumaru (who’s somehow even more ridiculous).
The levels are packed with hidden stuff—like, I swear I spent half an hour just bouncing around rooftops looking for secret shops. And the bosses? Huge, screen-filling weirdos that feel like they escaped from a kabuki play. Oh, and there’s a mech battle at one point. Because of course there is.
It’s got that classic Konami polish, but with enough weirdness to keep you guessing. If you’re into retro action-platformers with personality, this one’s a blast.
