Game No Tetsujin - The Shanghai (japan) Game

Game No Tetsujin - The Shanghai is one of those weird little SNES gems that never left Japan, and honestly? It’s a shame. At first glance, it looks like a straightforward mahjong solitaire game—you know, matching tiles to clear the board—but then it throws in these bizarre mecha battles between rounds. Yeah, you read that right.
You start off sliding tiles around like normal, trying to pair them up, but every so often the screen cuts to this chunky 16-bit robot fight. Your wins in the mahjong part boost your mech’s stats, so there’s actually some strategy in how fast or careful you play. The whole thing’s in Japanese, but the tile symbols are universal, and the robot fights are pure button-mashing chaos anyway.
It’s definitely niche, but if you’re into oddball retro mashups, this one’s got charm for days. Just don’t expect it to make much sense.
