About Gp-1
GP-1 came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, developed by Genki. It was part of that wave of early 90s racing games that tried to push the hardware with fast, polygonal visuals. You don't hear about it as much as some other racers from the era, but it had its own approach.
You control a futuristic racing car, navigating twisting tracks from a first-person perspective. The main goal is straightforward: win each race by finishing first. The game is structured screen by screen, with the track unfolding ahead of you in a chunky, vector-style look. You have to manage your speed carefully on the sharp turns and avoid crashing into the walls or other cars, which sends you spinning and costs precious time. The difficulty is pretty relentless; one mistake can knock you out of contention. It feels like a constant fight for control on tracks that are all tight corners and sudden obstacles.
