About Front Mission (japan) (rev A)
Front Mission (Japan) (Rev A) came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995, developed and published by Square. It was part of that late SNES era where developers were really pushing the hardware with deeper, more complex games, and this one fit right in with its serious tone and strategic focus.
You command a squad of pilots in customizable, bipedal mechs called wanzers across a series of turn-based tactical battles. Your main goal is to survive missions, complete objectives like destroying enemy units or defending positions, and navigate a story of corporate and political conflict. Key mechanics include customizing your wanzer's arms, legs, and weapons before each fight, and targeting specific enemy parts in battle to disable their weapons or mobility. The pacing is deliberate, requiring careful positioning and resource management, and the difficulty can be punishing if you are not prepared. It feels like a tense, methodical chess match played out with giant robots on a grid.
