About Front Mission (japan)
Front Mission came out for the Super Nintendo in 1995, developed by Square. It was part of that late SNES era where strategy games were getting more complex, letting you manage more than just simple troop movements on a grid.
You control a squad of pilots in customizable mechs called wanzers, fighting through turn-based battles on isometric maps. Your main goal is to complete mission objectives, which often involve destroying all enemy units or protecting a specific target. Two key mechanics are customizing your wanzer's arms, legs, and weapons before each sortie, and the ability to target specific enemy parts in combat to disable their weapons or mobility. The game moves at a deliberate, thoughtful pace, and misjudging an enemy's range or firepower can quickly lead to a mission failure. It feels like solving a violent, mechanical puzzle with every encounter.
