Flashback on SNES is one of those games that sticks with you—partly because of its moody sci-fi vibe, partly because Conrad’s weird little run cycle is burned into my brain. You wake up in a jungle with no memory, just a gun and some seriously jumpy reflexes. The controls take a second to click (holding down to run feels weird at first), but once you get the hang of rolling and ledge-grabbing, moving Conrad around feels surprisingly smooth.
It’s not just about shooting aliens—though that helps. You’ll toss rocks to distract guards, sneak past cameras, and even solve some light puzzles. The levels are packed with little details, like flickering neon signs in the city or Conrad’s exaggerated “oh crap” face when he misses a jump. Just don’t get too attached to your health bar—this game doesn’t go easy on you.
If you can push past the initial awkwardness, there’s a weirdly immersive world here. That first time you step into the rainy streets of New Washington? Still gives me chills.
