About Flashback (japan)
Flashback came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992, developed by Delphine Software International. It was part of that wave of cinematic platformers on the SNES, games that tried to tell a story with more detailed animation and a serious tone.
You control Conrad, an amnesiac agent, navigating a series of interconnected screens. Your main goal is to recover your memory and stop an alien threat, which involves traveling between different locations like a dystopian city and alien jungles. The game is built on careful, screen by screen exploration; you often have to talk to characters, solve environmental puzzles, and use items like a shield and a teleporter. Combat is deliberate, relying on a precise aiming reticle for your pistol, and the platforming requires timing and patience because Conrad's jumps have a realistic momentum. The pacing is slow and methodical, and the difficulty is unforgiving, demanding that you pay close attention to your surroundings. Playing it feels like piecing together a fragmented narrative through cautious, deliberate action.
