About Fatal Fury Special (europe)
Fatal Fury Special came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Takara. It was a time when home consoles were starting to get competent ports of arcade fighting games, and this was SNK's effort to bring a refined version of their coin-op brawler to the living room.
You pick one of many fighters, like Terry Bogard or Geese Howard, and battle through a series of one-on-one matches. Your goal is to win the King of Fighters tournament. The game uses a two-line system; you can jump between the foreground and background planes to dodge attacks and create openings. You build up a special meter by fighting, which lets you unleash powerful Desperation Moves. The pacing is fast, and the computer opponents can be brutally cheap, especially later on. Landing a full combo into a super move after a hard-fought round feels incredibly satisfying.
