About Fatal Fury 2 (europe)
I first played Fatal Fury 2 on the Super Nintendo in 1994, a port of SNK's arcade fighter. It was a solid entry in the SNES library during a time when home consoles were getting more competent at translating arcade experiences.
You control one of several martial artists, moving them left and right on a 2D plane to fight a series of opponents. The main objective is to win the King of Fighters tournament by defeating every other character. Two mechanics define the action: you can switch between two horizontal planes on the stage to dodge attacks, and a special meter lets you unleash a more powerful Desperation Move when your health is low. The pacing is fast, and the computer opponents can be brutally efficient, demanding you learn the timing for counters and combos. Landing that perfectly timed special move to win a close round provides a genuine rush of satisfaction.
