About Faceball
Faceball came out for the Super Nintendo in 1991, developed by Xanth Software F/X. It was one of the earlier first-person games on the system, arriving before the genre had really established itself on consoles. You got a glimpse of what a 3D shooter could be like on a 16-bit machine, even if it was a very different kind of experience from what would come later.
You control a small, spherical character navigating a series of maze-like levels from a first-person perspective. Your main goal is to shoot the other bouncing balls that represent enemy players or AI opponents. The game is built around screen-by-screen exploration; you move through discrete rooms, clearing them of foes before proceeding. A key mechanic is finding and using different power-ups, like rapid-fire shots or temporary shields, to gain an advantage. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can be unforgiving as enemies swarm you from all sides. It feels like a frantic, chaotic scramble in a confined digital space.
