FIFA Soccer '96 came out for the Super Nintendo in 1995, developed by EA Canada. It was one of the later sports titles for the system, arriving when the 16-bit era was still going strong but the next generation of consoles was on the horizon. This version was notable for including multiple language options right on the cartridge, which was a nice touch for players across Europe.

You control a team of eleven players, switching between them to pass the ball, tackle opponents, and take shots on goal. The main objective is to outscore the other team within the match time. A couple of its defining mechanics were the isometric view, which gave the pitch a slight 3D-like depth compared to purely top-down games, and the introduction of a more detailed passing system that allowed for through balls. The game had a faster pace than some earlier soccer sims, and scoring often felt accessible, though defending required careful positioning. It felt fluid and responsive, a solid step forward for playing a virtual match with friends.
