FIFA 98 on SNES is one of those late-era sports games that somehow squeezed every last drop out of the aging hardware. The animations are smoother than you'd expect, and the pixelated crowds actually react when you score—little details that make it feel alive. Passing feels a bit stiff compared to modern FIFA, but once you adjust, there's a weirdly satisfying rhythm to the gameplay.
You’ll notice the soundtrack first—big 90s Euro dance beats that blast during menus, totally out of place but weirdly nostalgic. The teams are outdated (no Messi here, just old-school legends), but that’s part of the charm. Slide tackles are borderline OP, and the refs never call fouls, so you can get away with murder. It’s janky, fast, and way more fun than it has any right to be.
If you dig retro sports games, this one holds up better than most from the era.
