About Fifa 98.1
FIFA 98.1 came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1997, a time when the console was already sharing the stage with newer hardware. Published by EA Sports, it was one of the last official football games released for the SNES, arriving just as the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 were becoming the new standard. It felt like a late arrival, a final attempt to deliver a complete football experience on aging hardware.
You control a team of eleven players, switching between them to pass, tackle, and shoot. The main objective is to outscore your opponent within the match time. Signature mechanics include the through pass, which lets you lead a teammate into open space, and sliding tackles that, while effective, often risk a foul if mistimed. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty can spike sharply against stronger computer teams, demanding quick reflexes and careful positioning.
