About Fifa 97 - Gold Edition
FIFA 97 Gold Edition came out for the Super Nintendo in 1996, a time when the 16-bit console was still holding its own. EA Sports published it, and this version bundled in some extra teams and updated rosters. It was one of the later soccer games on the system, arriving as the industry was already shifting toward newer hardware.
You control a team of eleven players, switching between them to pass the ball, tackle opponents, and take shots on goal. The main objective is to outscore the other team within the match time. A few mechanics stand out: the through-pass button sends a teammate on a run behind the defense, the sliding tackle is a risky but effective way to win the ball, and you can curl shots by holding the button longer. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty can spike sharply against better teams, making you work for every scoring chance. It feels responsive and direct, a solid soccer simulation for its era.
