FIFA '97 on SNES is one of those old-school soccer games that somehow still feels good to play. The controls are simple—pass, shoot, sprint—but there's a weird charm in how the players move, like they're sliding on grass a little too smoothly. The Gold Edition throws in some extra teams and modes, which was a big deal back then.
First thing you notice? The commentary is hilariously repetitive ("What a save! What a save!") and the crowd noise loops every few seconds, but that’s part of the nostalgia. The graphics are blocky by today’s standards, but the animations for goals and fouls still have this satisfying weight to them. If you pick Brazil, prepare to abuse their speed—it’s borderline unfair.
Not the deepest soccer sim, but it’s solid for quick matches when you just want to relive the '90s.
