About Equinox
Equinox came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Software Creations. It was part of that wave of isometric perspective games on the system, trying something a little different from the standard side scrollers. You don't hear about it as much as some other titles from that year, but it had its own quiet presence.
You control a young boy named Shoki, tasked with rescuing kidnapped children from a dream world. The game is structured as a series of multi level dungeons, each screen a single room or puzzle you must solve. Your main tools are a sword for close combat and a crossbow for hitting switches or enemies from a distance. A key mechanic is finding colored orbs to unlock new abilities, like a double jump or a shield, which then let you access previously unreachable areas. The pace is deliberate, with a focus on careful exploration and environmental puzzles over fast action. The difficulty is consistent, demanding you pay attention to enemy patterns and room layouts. Playing it feels like slowly untangling a complex, interconnected knot.
