About Energy Breaker (english Translation)
Energy Breaker came out for the Super Nintendo in 1996, a time when developers were really pushing what the system could do. Taito published it, and it's one of those later SNES games that often gets overlooked. It's an RPG, but it doesn't play like the typical ones from that era, which is what first caught my attention.
You control a party of characters exploring the world screen by screen, almost like a grid. Your main goal is to stop a mysterious energy field from consuming everything. The combat is turn-based and happens on the same map you explore; you position your characters to attack with swords or magic, and terrain actually matters. You also collect elemental orbs to power up your abilities and solve puzzles in dungeons. The pacing is deliberate, and some of the boss fights are quite difficult, requiring careful planning. Moving through its world feels methodical and strangely absorbing.
