Emerald Dragon on SNES is one of those hidden JRPG gems that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this weirdly charming mix of fantasy and dragon-riding action. You start off as a kid raised by dragons (cool, right?), and before long, you’re swinging swords and casting spells in turn-based battles that actually feel snappy for a '90s RPG.
The sprites are colorful, the music’s got that classic SNES synth charm, and there’s something oddly satisfying about the way your dragon companion just wrecks enemies in fights. It’s not the deepest RPG out there, but it’s got personality—like if someone mashed up a Saturday morning anime with old-school Final Fantasy. If you’re into retro JRPGs with a side of nostalgia, this one’s worth dusting off.
