About Earthbound - Sword Of Kings
Earthbound came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Ape and HAL Laboratory. It was part of that wave of 16-bit RPGs that felt different from the usual fantasy settings. You control a group of kids, not warriors, exploring a world that looks a lot like your own, just with more aliens and psychic powers.
You guide Ness and his friends through towns and dungeons, fighting enemies in turn-based battles. Your main goal is to collect eight sacred melodies to stop an alien threat. The combat uses a rolling health meter, so you can heal damage if you act fast enough, and you can sometimes win fights automatically if you're much stronger than the enemy. The game is long and some areas are tough, requiring you to grind for experience. Playing it feels like taking a strange, sometimes funny, sometimes unsettling road trip with your friends.
