Earthbound - Arn's Winter Quest - Gway Edition is one of those weird, cozy SNES RPGs that just sticks with you. You play as Arn, bundled up in winter gear, wandering through snow-covered towns where every character has something odd to say—like a guy obsessed with frozen yogurt or a sentient snowman who gives terrible advice. The battles are classic Earthbound: turn-based but with that offbeat humor where enemies might just insult you instead of attacking.
What got me hooked was how it nails that winter vibe—the music’s all sleigh bells and soft synth, and the pixel-art snow actually looks cold. At one point, I spent way too long just watching my footprints appear in fresh powder. It’s not a huge game, but there’s something about the way it mixes nostalgia with new little surprises (like a secret hot springs area where your party soaks in giant teacups) that makes it worth digging out the SNES for. If you ever wished Earthbound had a snowy holiday spin-off, this is basically that.
