E.V.O. Search for Eden came out in 1992 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by Almanic. It was one of those unusual titles that stood apart from the typical platformers and RPGs of the era, offering a different kind of adventure.
You control a creature evolving through Earth's history, starting as a simple fish. Your goal is to survive and evolve by defeating other animals and consuming their EVO points, which you spend to modify your body parts like jaws, fins, and armor. The game progresses through distinct geological eras, each with its own environments and predators. You explore screen by screen, navigating oceans, swamps, and eventually land, fighting everything from trilobites to dinosaurs. The pacing can be slow, and some sections are quite difficult, demanding careful evolution choices to overcome tougher foes.
