Dune is a science fiction adventure game released in 1992 for MS-DOS. Developed by Cryo Interactive Entertainment and published by Virgin Games, Inc., it is based on Frank Herbert's novel and incorporates visual elements from the 1984 film adaptation. The game blends strategy and adventure as players assume the role of Paul Atreides, the son of Duke Leto, on the desert planet Arrakis.

Players guide Paul with the objective of managing the extraction of the valuable substance known as spice. The core task involves contacting and persuading the native Fremen tribes to harvest spice from settlements called sietches. This harvested spice is used to acquire equipment from smugglers and to meet the demands of the Emperor. Gameplay systems include managing harvesters to increase production and deploying ornithopters to defend operations from the planet's giant sandworms. Progression requires continually prospecting for new sietch locations as spice deposits are depleted, while also monitoring threats from the rival House Harkonnen, which controls territory to the north.

As the game continues, players must address Harkonnen attempts to seize control of sietches. This involves training Fremen forces for military defense under the guidance of character Gurney Halleck, an action that requires Paul to first build a sufficient reputation through his control of Arrakis. Advancing through the narrative allows Paul to develop his latent abilities and interact with other characters from the source material, such as Jessica, Stilgar, and Liet Kynes. The overarching goal ties into the ecological transformation plans for the planet, which form a key part of the story's conclusion.
