I remember trying out the beta version of Dragon's Lair for the Super Nintendo. It was developed by ReadySoft and published by CSG Imagesoft, though this European beta never saw a full release. It arrived late in the SNES lifecycle, a time when many developers were experimenting with bringing arcade experiences home.

You control Dirk the Daring, a knight navigating a castle filled with traps. Your main goal is to rescue Princess Daphne from a dragon. The gameplay is built around screen by screen exploration; each new screen presents a dangerous situation, and you must input the correct directional or button press at the exact moment to survive. You don't have direct control over Dirk's movement in a traditional sense. Instead, you react to on screen cues, making it a test of timing and memory. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving, as a single mistimed input leads to an immediate, often cartoonish, death. Playing it feels like walking a tightrope where every step is a guess.
