About Dragon Quest I & Ii (japan)
I first played Dragon Quest I & II on the Super Nintendo in 1993, a release by Chunsoft that bundled the first two games with updated graphics and sound. It was a notable title on the SNES, arriving when console RPGs were becoming more visually detailed, though it kept the straightforward structure of the earlier Famicom originals.
You control a lone hero in the first quest, then a party of three in the second, exploring the world screen by screen. Your main goal is to defeat a great evil, which involves traveling across continents, gathering key items, and delving into multi-level dungeons. Combat is turn-based, fought from a first-person perspective where you select attack, spell, or item commands for each character. The pacing is deliberate, with frequent random encounters and a need to manage your resources carefully between town visits. Progress feels earned because the game does not guide you; you talk to villagers for clues and often chart your own path on graph paper. Playing it gives a sense of building a small legend through persistence and exploration.
