Dragon Quest I & II on SNES is basically the grandpa of JRPGs getting a fresh coat of paint—these are the 16-bit remakes of the classics that started it all. You get both games in one cart, which is nice if you want to see how the series evolved from its super simple beginnings (DQ1 feels almost barebones now) to the slightly more fleshed-out sequel.
DQ1 drops you straight into it—no hand-holding, just "here's a sword, go save the princess." The remake keeps that old-school vibe but smooths out some of the rougher edges with better graphics and sound. DQ2 expands things with a party system and a bigger world, though the difficulty spike near the end is still brutal. If you're used to modern RPGs, the grind feels slow, but there's something charming about how straightforward it all is.
Fair warning: The translation here is a fan patch, so expect some quirks—nothing game-breaking, just the occasional odd phrasing. Still, it’s the best way to play these without digging out an old Famicom.
