About Dossun! Ganseki Battle
I first came across Dossun! Ganseki Battle on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1994. It was released by Magifact, a name I didn't see too often, and it fit right in with the kind of experimental puzzle games the SNES seemed to attract. It wasn't a blockbuster, but it had a certain charm that made it stand out on the shelf.
You control a little caveman who can push and pull large boulders. The main goal is to clear each single-screen stage by shoving all the rocks into the water pits. The mechanics are simple but require planning; you can only push one rock at a time, and if you get a rock stuck in a corner, you have to reset the stage. The difficulty ramps up quickly, introducing enemies and more complex rock arrangements that force you to think several moves ahead. It feels satisfying to finally solve a stage that had you stumped for a while.
