Okay, so picture this: Donald Duck, but he’s basically Indiana Jones in a Hawaiian shirt. That’s Maui Mallard on SNES—a weird, charming little platformer where Donald moonlights as a detective (for some reason) and jumps around tropical ruins, dodging traps and bopping enemies with his staff.
The first thing you’ll notice is how vibrant the colors are—lush greens, deep blues, all that classic 16-bit charm. The controls feel a bit stiff at first (hey, it’s the ‘90s), but once you get used to it, there’s something satisfying about the way Donald bounces off enemies. And yeah, he can turn into this weird fire-dancing version of himself if you find the right power-up. No, I don’t get it either, but it’s fun.
It’s not the hardest SNES game out there, but there’s enough variety—jungle temples, lava caves, even a surfing level—to keep it interesting. Plus, the soundtrack’s got this goofy island vibe that somehow works. If you’re into offbeat Disney games or just want something different from the usual Mario clones, give it a shot.
