Donald Duck gets a tropical makeover in Maui Mallard, a weirdly fun SNES platformer where he's basically Indiana Jones with feathers. You jump between tiki temples and lava-filled caves, tossing boomerangs at coconut-chucking monkeys—because of course there are monkeys. The pixel art is surprisingly lush for a Disney game, with these little details like torches flickering in the breeze and Donald's annoyed squawks when he misses a jump.
At first I thought the boomerang combat would feel clunky, but it actually works once you get the timing down. Just don't expect anything groundbreaking—it's pure 90s platforming comfort food, complete with secret areas hidden behind suspiciously vine-covered walls. The soundtrack's got this weirdly catchy island vibe that somehow doesn't get old after the tenth loop.
Honestly, it's the kind of game you dig up when you're nostalgic for that era when every cartoon character had to star in a side-scroller. Still holds up better than most.
