Donald Duck No Mahou No Boushi is one of those late-era SNES gems that flew under the radar outside Japan. You play as Donald in this weirdly charming action-platformer where he's got this magic hat that lets him transform into different forms—like a tank, a rocket, or even a bouncing ball. The animations are surprisingly smooth for a Disney game, and the levels have this playful, almost toybox-like feel to them.
At first, I thought it was just another licensed game, but the transformations actually change how you approach each stage. The tank wrecks everything but moves slow, while the rocket lets you zip through gaps but controls like, well, a rocket. Some of the later puzzles get pretty clever with how you mix and match abilities. Also, the music’s got that classic Capcom arcade energy—catchy but not annoying after the hundredth retry.
It’s a shame this never got an official English release, but if you’re into quirky platformers, it’s worth digging up a translation patch.
