About Dino City
I first played Dino City on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1992. It was developed by Irem, the same company known for R-Type, so I was curious what they would do with a side-scrolling platformer. It came out during that early SNES period when developers were still figuring out what the hardware could do, and this game was part of that experimental wave.
You control a boy named Timmy who rides a dinosaur through a series of prehistoric levels. Your main goal is to rescue your friend from a tribe of cavemen. The gameplay involves moving screen by screen, using your dino to headbutt enemies and break open eggs that contain power-ups. You can also dismount to explore tighter spaces on foot, which adds a little variety to the action. The pacing is fairly quick, and some of the later stages get quite difficult with tricky enemy placements. It feels like a straightforward, energetic run-and-jump game from that era.
