About Dear Boys (japan)
Dear Boys came out in 1994 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by Kan's and published by Yutaka. It was part of that wave of sports games based on manga, a familiar sight on the SNES, and it adapted the story from the original comic.
You control a high school basketball team, managing players and calling plays during matches. The main goal is to guide your team through a tournament, winning games to advance the narrative. You spend time between matches building team morale and managing player conditions, which directly impacts their performance on the court. During the games themselves, you execute set plays, pass the ball, and take shots, with a timing-based system for successful actions. The pacing is deliberate, focusing on strategy over frantic action, and the difficulty can be unforgiving if your team's spirit is low. It feels like you are personally steering a team through the pressures of a high school sports season.
