About David Cranes Amazing Tennis
David Crane's Amazing Tennis came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992, published by Absolute Entertainment. It was one of several sports titles on the platform that tried to capture the feel of a real match without the complexity of a full simulation. You could tell it was aiming for an arcade style, something you could pick up and play without needing to learn a lot of complicated controls.
You control a tennis player from a side view, moving them around the court to hit the ball back and forth. The main goal is to win matches by outscoring your opponent in sets. The game has a few specific mechanics, like charging up your shot for more power and using different shot types, such as lobs and slices, to control the ball's placement. The pacing is generally quick, and the difficulty can spike depending on the opponent, making some matches feel like a real back and forth struggle. It feels responsive and straightforward when you get into a good rally.
