Dai-4-ji Super Robot Taisen is one of those classic SNES mech strategy games where you get to throw giant robots at each other in turn-based battles. The roster’s packed with iconic Japanese mecha from different series—Gundams, Mazinger, even some deep cuts. At first, the menus feel a little clunky (it’s an early '90s SRW game, after all), but once you get past that, there’s something satisfying about watching your squad of over-the-top robots unleash screen-filling special attacks.
Early on, you’re juggling upgrades, pilot skills, and positioning—mess up, and you’ll get wrecked by enemy reinforcements. The sprite work still holds up, especially when units pull off their signature moves. If you’re into tactical games or grew up with any of these mecha series, it’s a nostalgia trip with some real depth under the surface. Just don’t expect the QoL stuff from later entries.
