Cosmo Police Galivan II is one of those SNES hidden gems that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it’s a solid action-platformer with a weirdly cool sci-fi vibe. You play as Galivan, this armored space cop who swings a sword and shoots energy blasts while jumping through levels that feel like a mix of Mega Man and early Castlevania.
The first thing you’ll notice is how weighty the movement feels—Galivan isn’t some floaty hero, so you’ve gotta commit to your jumps. And those energy shots? They’ve got this satisfying thunk when they hit enemies. The levels throw these weird alien landscapes at you, with some surprisingly tough platforming sections that’ll test your patience (in a good way).
It’s not perfect—some of the enemy patterns feel cheap until you memorize them—but there’s something really satisfying about the way the sword combos work once you get the timing down. If you’re into retro action games that don’t hold your hand, this one’s worth digging up.
