About Congo's Caper (europe)
Congo's Caper came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, a release from Data East. It was part of that wave of early 90s platformers that filled the console's library, a time when developers were experimenting with the system's capabilities. The game has a distinct look and feel that places it firmly in that era.
You control a little caveman named Congo, and your main goal is to rescue your girlfriend from an evil witch doctor. The game is structured screen by screen; you move through jungle and cave environments, clearing enemies from each area to proceed. Congo's main ability is a bouncing headbutt attack, which you use to defeat most foes. You can also find power-ups that transform you into different animals, like a panther that can climb walls or a frog with a long tongue attack. The pacing is fairly quick, and the difficulty can be unforgiving with precise platforming required. Playing it feels like a brisk, challenging scramble through a vibrant prehistoric world.
