About Combatribes, The (japan)
I first played The Combatribes on the Super Nintendo in 1992, a game developed by Technos Japan. It was part of that wave of arcade-style brawlers that felt right at home on the system, offering a straightforward, co-operative experience you could jump into with a friend.
You control one of three powerful vigilantes, each with their own unique fighting style, tasked with cleaning up crime-ridden streets across New York City. Your main objective is to fight through waves of thugs and gang bosses, moving from one city block to the next. The game's signature mechanics include the ability to pick up and throw enemies, sometimes into the screen, and using environmental objects like barrels as weapons. The pacing is fast and the difficulty can be punishing, demanding quick reflexes to handle the aggressive enemy crowds. It feels like a solid, weighty brawl where every punch and throw has a tangible impact on the chaos unfolding around you.
