About Claymates (sample)
Claymates came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, published by Interplay. It was one of those oddball platformers that felt right at home on the SNES, a system full of experiments with form and character. You don't see many games where the main character is a lump of clay.
You control a boy named Clayton, who has been transformed into a ball of clay by a villain. Your goal is to rescue your father by navigating through a series of side scrolling levels. The core mechanic is transformation; by touching different colored orbs, your clay ball morphs into specific animals like a mouse that can run fast or a fish that can swim. Each screen is a self contained puzzle, and you often need to switch forms to access new areas or avoid obstacles. The pacing is deliberate, more about figuring out the right form for the job than pure speed. It feels like solving a physical puzzle with your own two hands.
