Clay Fighter came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Interplay Entertainment. It was a strange sight on a system known for its polished graphics, using stop motion clay animation for its characters instead of the usual hand drawn or digitized sprites. This gave it a lumpy, surreal look that stood out, for better or worse, among other SNES fighters of the time.

You control one of several oddball fighters, like a living snowman or a deranged boxer, and face off against opponents in a series of one on one matches. The main goal is to win the tournament by depleting your rival's health bar before they deplete yours. The fighting mechanics are simple, with basic punches, kicks, and special moves executed with quarter circle motions. A notable feature is the ability to pick up and throw various objects that appear in the stage, and some characters can even transform temporarily. The game moves at a slower, heavier pace than many of its contemporaries, and the controls can feel a bit unresponsive, which adds to the challenge. Playing it feels like wrestling with a bunch of silly, stubborn lumps of clay.
