Chaos Seed is one of those weird, ambitious SNES RPGs that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this bizarre mix of dungeon crawling and town-building that somehow works. You start off managing this underground village while also diving into monster-filled caves to gather resources and fight off invasions. At first, it feels like a standard action-RPG, but then you realize half the game is about placing feng shui tiles to boost your town’s stats or directing villagers to farm, mine, or defend. Weird, right?

Combat’s real-time but with a tactical twist—you’re constantly juggling between exploring, setting traps, and keeping your villagers alive. The feng shui system is oddly satisfying once you get the hang of it, though I definitely wasted a few hours rearranging my entire base because "the energy flow felt off." If you’re into experimental ‘90s RPGs with more systems than the manual can explain, this one’s a hidden gem. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
