Card Master - Rimusaria no Fuuin is one of those weird, obscure SNES RPGs that never left Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this odd charm to it. You start off with this deck of monster cards, and instead of typical turn-based combat, you’re slapping down creatures like some kind of fantasy poker match. The art’s got that early ‘90s anime vibe, all big eyes and dramatic poses.

At first, I had no idea what I was doing—half the menus are in kanji, and the card effects aren’t exactly obvious. But after a few battles, you start figuring out which combos actually work (hint: don’t sleep on the dragon cards). The music’s surprisingly catchy too, all synth trumpets and dungeon crawler energy.

It’s definitely janky by modern standards, but if you’re into digging up forgotten RPGs, this one’s a neat little time capsule.
