Captain Tsubasa V wraps up Tecmo’s SNES soccer RPG series with a bang—if you’re into over-the-top anime football where players shoot fireballs instead of passing. The first thing you’ll notice is how ridiculous (and weirdly satisfying) it feels to pull off a "Tiger Shot" that sends the goalie flying. Matches play out like turn-based battles, with flashy cut-ins and dramatic close-ups when someone pulls off a super move.
It’s definitely a product of its time—the menus are clunky, and good luck figuring out some mechanics without a guide—but there’s charm in how hard it commits to the fantasy. You’ll recruit classic Tsubasa characters, train their absurd skills, and eventually face off against teams that feel like they’re cheating (because sometimes they are). If you played the earlier games, this one polishes the formula just enough to feel like a proper send-off.
Just don’t expect FIFA—this is soccer as a shonen anime, complete with yelling and powering up mid-game.
