Man, Cannon Fodder on SNES is one of those games that looks cute until you realize how brutal it is. You start with a handful of little green soldiers—each with names, which makes it way harder when they inevitably get blown up—and guide them through these chaotic top-down missions. One minute you're sneaking through jungles, the next you're getting ambushed by tanks while your guys panic-fire in every direction.
The controls are simple—just point and shoot—but the strategy comes from positioning and not getting too attached to your troops. The pixel art has this weird charm where explosions look almost cheerful, even when half your squad just got wiped. And that soundtrack? Unreasonably catchy for a game where death comes fast and often.
It’s not just mindless shooting, though. You actually have to think about cover, ammo, and which guys to sacrifice (sorry, Steve). Classic 16-bit warfare at its most darkly funny. If you missed this one back in the day, it’s still a blast—just maybe don’t name your soldiers after real friends.
