About Cal Ripken Jr. Baseball (beta)
Cal Ripken Jr. Baseball came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, published by Mindscape. It was part of that wave of early 90s sports games trying to capture the feel of the sport on a 16-bit system, before full MLB licensing became the standard.
You control all nine players on the field, handling pitching, batting, and fielding. The main goal is to outscore the computer or a second player over nine innings. A couple of its standout features are the detailed cinematic replays that show after close plays and the ability to dive or jump for catches in the outfield. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the pitching, with its meter-based system, requires some practice to master. It feels like a solid, straightforward baseball simulation from that period.
