Burntime is a post-apocalyptic role-playing game released for MS-DOS in 1993, developed and published by Max Design GesMBH. The game presents a top-down view of a world where widespread deserts and the ruins of civilization form the setting for a struggle for survival and dominance.

The player controls one of four characters, each with the shared objective of ruling the devastated world. A significant portion of gameplay involves navigating a large, multi-screen map that displays the positions of all four rival characters, the territories they control, and the status of major locations. The player travels across this landscape, seeking to occupy various settlements such as old factories, campsites, and the ruins of former mega-cities. Five major cities remain neutral zones where conflict is prohibited, serving as hubs for all competitors.

Progression involves managing a party and resources while interacting with numerous computer-controlled characters. The player can meet survivors to exchange information, trade items, or recruit them. These characters belong to different classes, including fighters, engineers, and doctors, each contributing specific skills. Every party member can carry a limited inventory of up to six items, such as food and weapons, which are produced by the settlements under the player's control. The core gameplay loop combines strategic map movement, territory conquest, resource management, and character interaction within this competitive survival framework.
