Bubsy: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind is one of those '90s platformers that almost had it. You play as this wisecracking bobcat who runs, jumps, and—most importantly—glides awkwardly through massive, colorful levels. The stages are way bigger than your average SNES platformer, with deserts, factories, even some trippy neon zones. And yeah, the music slaps in that classic chip-tune way.

Problem is, Bubsy controls like he’s on roller skates half the time. You’ll miss jumps because his momentum feels weird, and if you take a hit? Instant death—no rings or power-ups to save you like in Sonic. Still, there’s charm here: the level names are dumb-funny ("What Could Possibly Go Wrong?"), and when the controls cooperate, speeding through loops and bouncing on trampolines feels great. It’s no Mario killer, but it’s got personality. Just don’t blame me when you yeet yourself into a pit for the tenth time.

The first game did well enough to spawn a bunch of sequels, but honestly, none of them captured whatever weird magic this one had.
