About Blood & Magic
Blood and Magic is a real time strategy game released in 1996 for MS DOS computers. Developed by Tachyon Studios and published by Interplay Productions, it is set in the Forgotten Realms universe and presents a conflict between rival mages. The game uses a bird's eye view perspective to display its tile based environments.
Players control a master of the Blood Forge, a magical device used to create armies. The primary objective is to defeat opposing mages across a series of missions. The game is structured into five distinct story scenarios, each containing three missions. Each of these scenarios can be played from the perspective of either of the two factions, providing a total of thirty missions with escalating difficulty. Progression is linear, moving from one mission to the next within a chosen storyline.
Gameplay revolves around managing Basal Golems, which are the initial unit a player can create. These golems generate mana, the essential resource used for all other actions. Mana can be spent to transform Basal Golems into more powerful combat units or, in some cases, into functional buildings. The game incorporates tactical considerations, as different terrain types affect unit movement and combat effectiveness. Additionally, magical items are placed on the battlefield for players to find and use, with enemy forces also capable of utilizing these items.
